GP practice governance — built from the inside of the problem

We help Practice Managers and GP Partners build governance systems that actually work. Not compliance theatre. A system your whole team owns — that runs continuously, and that keeps you genuinely ready.

Built during the recovery — not designed in response to it

I came into general practice management almost by accident. Two weeks into a Data Manager role at a Darzi Centre, the Practice Manager left and the directors asked if I'd give it a go. I found work I loved.

Over the next twelve years, across three practices — as Data Manager, Practice Manager, and eventually Managing Partner — I built something that felt like it was working. Until 2019, when the practice I was leading received an Inadequate rating from CQC.

"The Good rating we'd had before didn't tell us what we didn't know. The framework that rated us Good wasn't designed to test what the current inspection now tests."

2019

Inadequate rating received. Appeal submitted with over 500 pages of evidence.

2020

Requires Improvement. Framework begins taking shape during recovery — and through a pandemic.

2021

Good rating achieved. Framework codified. Harmony CQC programme begins.

"

"The biggest shift for us was realising that governance doesn't sit with one person. Once the team built it together — understood the risk register, owned their audit areas, knew what they were responsible for — everything changed. It stopped being something we did before inspections and became the way we work."

Questions we get asked most

About Harmony CQC
What is Harmony CQC?

Harmony CQC is a governance support programme for GP practices built by a former Managing Partner who went through an Inadequate CQC rating and spent three years rebuilding. The programme was built during that recovery — not designed in a classroom.

At the centre is The Simple Path: an 8-step framework for building governance systems that your whole team can own, that run continuously, and that generate evidence as a byproduct of doing good work.

Who is it for?

Anyone with responsibility for compliance or leadership in a GP practice — Practice Managers, GP Partners, Managing Partners, Registered Managers, and Compliance Leads. Whether you're new to the role, experienced but stretched, or facing a specific challenge, there's a level of support designed for where you are.

What makes Harmony CQC different?

Most compliance support is built around policies and tick-boxes. Harmony CQC is built around governance — the system behind the documents. The difference is whether compliance is carried by one person under pressure, or distributed across the whole team and running continuously.

The framework was built from inside a recovery from Inadequate. It wasn't designed by someone who studied CQC from the outside. It was built by someone who needed it to work.

The Simple Path
What are the 8 steps?

1. Risk Management — identify, score and prioritise the risks in your practice. Build the register that drives everything else.
2. Policies & Procedures — ensure every high-risk area has a clear, usable policy and SOP.
3. Training & Development — role-specific training built around your actual standards, not generic compliance.
4. Audit & Monitoring — a rolling cycle that catches problems before they become inspection findings.
5. Learning & Improvement — act on what audits find, close the loop, demonstrate that the practice learns.
6. Patient Feedback & Engagement — use patient experience as evidence of quality and a driver of improvement.
7. Review & Adaptation — step back regularly to review the whole system and adapt as risks shift.
8. Leadership & Accountability — ensure the right people own the right areas. Governance distributed, not carried by one person.

What is the founding member rate?

The founding member rate is £39/month. Once you join, that price is locked for life — it will never increase as long as you remain a member. The standard rate, when founding places are gone, is £99/month.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. No contract, no minimum term. The founding member price lock applies for as long as you remain a member. If you cancel and rejoin, you rejoin at the prevailing rate at that time.

What is the Skills Matrix?

The Skills Matrix is the central governance tool in The Simple Path. It maps every significant task in your practice against the risk rating, the SOP status, who is trained, and who is signed off as competent. It makes governance visible — so you can see at a glance where the practice is strong and where there are gaps. It's how governance distributes across the team rather than sitting with one person.

Other support levels
What is CQC Clarity?

CQC Clarity is the structured audit membership — 104 governance audit templates delivered across a two-year proactive cycle. It's not designed for inspection preparation. It's designed to demonstrate, over time, that your practice knows what works and what doesn't. A continuous evidence trail rather than a snapshot. It works well where sufficient internal capacity exists to drive improvement using structured tools and peer support.

What is CQC Confidence Coaching?

£350/month. Everything in The Simple Path, plus weekly coaching sessions for up to two team members, a tailored flight plan, and direct access to Daniel Vincent. Designed for practices that need structured accountability and regular expert touchpoints to maintain momentum.

What is the Rapid Implementation Study Day?

A full day for your core team covering four governance modules — Leadership & Accountability, Risk Management, Policies & Procedures, and Audit & Monitoring. The day runs when a practice in an area decides to organise it. The organising practice attends free when at least five other practices sign up. Up to ten practices can join per day — if more want to attend, additional concurrent days run.

£954 per attending practice. The organising practice pays nothing. Find out how to organise one for your area.

What is the Returning to Good and Outstanding programme?

CQC announced this in March 2026. It targets lower-risk GP practices rated Good or Outstanding that haven't been inspected since before 2022. Practices get at least five working days' notice and a site visit focused on 10 non-clinical quality statements. If concerns are found, it escalates to a full inspection.

It is running now, alongside normal inspection activity. The 10 quality statements have not been officially confirmed. We are tracking and communicating developments through the Harmony CQC community.

What is the draft sector-specific primary care framework?

CQC published a draft sector-specific assessment framework for primary care in early 2026, open for consultation until 12 June 2026. The five key questions remain. Quality statements are being replaced by key lines of enquiry. Rating characteristics are returning — giving clearer descriptions of what Good and Outstanding look like in a GP practice.

Nothing changes until later in 2026 at the earliest. But this document gives us the most detailed insight we have ever had into how an inspector thinks about general practice. Worth reading. We cover the key points in the community.

Should we do anything differently right now?

The honest answer: if governance isn't a word you're using at least once a week in your practice — not once a year, not before an inspection — you need to look at what you're building.

Both developments point in the same direction. The Returning to Good programme is already running. The new framework is coming. A governance system that runs continuously, that the whole team owns, and that generates evidence as a byproduct of good work — that's what both of them are looking for. That's what The Simple Path builds.
